This page helps users handle a case search in Placer County, California by using the Superior Court of California, County of Placer Online Portal and related court services.

The portal supports public case searches for basic case information, while some document access and official record requests require additional court steps.

Use the court’s online case search to look up basic case information by party, company, or case number. The search requires a filing date or date range, so use a wider range if you are not sure when the case was filed.

  • Last name and first name
  • Last name and first initial
  • Company name
  • Case number
  • Filed date or filed date range

Start with the most exact information you have, then adjust the filing date range if the search does not return the case.

  • Open the search for a Placer County Superior Court case page.
  • Enter a party name, company name, or case number.
  • Select a filing date range that includes the original case filing date.
  • Review the returned case information and narrow the search if needed.

Case number formats

Case number formatting matters in the portal. Civil and family case numbers start with a letter, two letters, and seven numbers, such as S-CV-0000001, M-CV-0000001, S-FS-0000001, or S-DR-0000001.

Criminal case numbers normally start with 62 followed by seven numbers, such as 62-0000001. Include the dashes and the correct number of zeros when searching.

Search tip: if you receive no results, confirm that the filing date is the original case filing date, not a later document date.

Online portal coverage and limits

The Placer County Superior Court Online Portal can be used to research and locate Criminal, Civil, Traffic, and Family Law matters for a particular case or citation number. The public may search for case information without creating an account.

Online information is not the official court record, and the most current filings may or may not be available in the system. Users relying on case information should verify it against court paperwork or notices.

Documents are viewable online only in some case types. Public document availability is listed for Civil and Probate cases beginning August 28, 2017. Online document access is governed by California Rules of Court rule 2.503.

Attorney and party case access

An online portal account is needed for parties or attorneys to access electronic case files and documents in most case types. A public case search does not require an account.

Case access is granted only to an attorney of record or an active party on the case. Attorneys complete the case access form and submit it to psupport@placer.courts.ca.gov. Non-attorney parties may request access through the court’s video identification process or by visiting the courthouse.

Some cases are not available for online remote access through a portal account, including adoptions, mental health, juvenile, search warrant, Ramey warrant, and cases sealed by the court.

Case records and official copies

To obtain an official certified court record, request the specific documents in person or in writing through Placer County Superior Court. The court’s online portal does not replace the official court record.

Case numbers can be looked up online or at the Honorable Howard G. Gibson Courthouse public terminal. If you do not have a case number and need a name search, there is a $15.00 charge per name when the search takes the clerk more than ten minutes.

Files may be viewed in person at the counter, subject to court limits and availability. Some files may be off site, and files on calendar are not available two days before and three days after the hearing. Off-site files will be retrieved and available for viewing or copying within three weeks.

Mail copy requests may be made with the Records and Copy Request form. Phone, email, and fax copy requests are not accepted. For more details, use the court’s case records and copy request instructions.

Court calendars and hearing reminders

The court posts a weekly calendar on Friday at approximately 5:00 p.m. for the following week. The weekly report is not updated after it runs, so it will not show cases set after the initial run.

For hearings tied to a specific case, the court directs users to the Online Portal. Users may also use the Hearing Reminder Service to receive email or text reminders for public hearings, with reminders available two weeks or two days before the hearing, or both.
