What the online inmate result means
The inmate search is designed to show booking information from the Hernando County Detention Center. It should not be used to decide a person’s complete criminal history.
The online listing does not show charging information from the State Attorney’s Office and does not show the final result of a criminal case or trial. An acquittal or dismissal does not necessarily change whether the arrest and booking were valid.
For final disposition information on criminal charges, contact the Clerk of the Circuit Court.
Hernando County Detention Center
The Hernando County Detention Center is the central booking and intake location for law enforcement agencies operating in Hernando County. It is operated by the Sheriff and handles the care, custody, and control of people arrested in the county.
The facility houses people who are held without bond, unable to post court-set bail, awaiting trial after transfer from another county or state, or serving a county jail sentence of less than one year.
Bond and first appearance information
Bond amounts are set by a bond schedule from the Chief Judge. If the arrest is based on an outstanding warrant, the judge who signed the warrant sets the bond amount.
Domestic-related charges are not eligible for bond until the person appears before a judge. If the person stays in custody long enough, the first court appearance is the Advisory Hearing.
Advisory Hearings typically take place at 1:00 p.m. daily, but the assigned judge may change the time. The hearing can take two to four hours, and the judge may leave the bond amount the same or set a new amount.
Release procedures and timing
Releases may happen after cash bond, a bondsman bond, completion of a sentence, probation sentencing, transfer, or another qualifying release reason. The release desk processes releases as they are received.
No releases take place during shift changes and inmate counts. These no-release periods are:
| No-release period | Reason |
|---|---|
| 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. | Shift change and inmate count |
| 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. | Shift change and inmate count |
| 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. | Shift change and inmate count |
| 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. | Shift change and inmate count |
People arrested for DUI or BUI must remain in custody for at least 8 hours from the time of arrest, even if bond is paid earlier.
Bond payment options
If a bonding company is not used, cash and GovPayNet payments are accepted by the Hernando County Clerk of Court. Cash bonds may also be made in the lobby of the Hernando County Detention Center, and the exact cash amount per bond is required.
GovPayNet accepts major credit, debit, and prepaid debit cards for cash bail payments. The GovPayNet payment page identifies the agency as Hernando County Sheriff’s Office and the payment purpose as cash bail.
Use the GovPayNet cash bail payment page only when you have the required defendant and case information.
