Search Lake County court records online

The main online search tool for Lake County court records is ShowCase. Public users can search without a username or password, while registered users can log in for enhanced access when eligible.

Use the public search when you need basic case information or available court document images.

• Open the official search Lake County court records tool.
• Select the Search option to open the Case Search screen.
• Enter a case number or party name details.
• Choose the search type that best fits the information you have.
• Select the case number in the results to view the case details.

For broader name searches, the Clerk advises checking spelling variations and using the “%” wildcard for unknown characters or partial names.

What online court records include

Online access varies by case type, case year, user role, and the contents of the document. Most court records from 2003 to present can be accessed online after review and release when required.

Cases before 2003 generally do not have document images online. Criminal traffic cases have no images earlier than 2009, and civil traffic cases have no images earlier than 2013. Some older case files may not have images because retention periods ended before imaging.

Case detail tabs may include parties, charges, court events, dockets, sentences, arrests and bonds, linked cases, and fees or payment plan information.

Request document images that are not available

Some docket entries show a paperclip icon, which means an available redacted image can be viewed based on access rights. A lock icon means the document must go through review before it can be viewed.

When a locked document is selected, the View on Request window allows the user to request the image. An email address may be entered for notification when the image is available, or the user may check the case again later.

Record requests are generally processed and made available within 24 to 36 hours, excluding weekends and holidays. Recently filed documents are normally viewable after processing, usually within 2 to 3 business days, if the user is otherwise allowed to view them.

Registered user access

Registered users may receive greater access depending on their role and the case. Attorneys of record, parties to cases, and authorized business representatives may have access that differs from anonymous public users.

To request registered user access, complete the registration agreement for court records and submit it by email, mail, delivery, or in person as directed by the Clerk. There is no fee for registered user access.

If the registration is for a party to a case, an attorney of record, or an officer, owner, or employee of a business entity named as a party, the form must be notarized.

Older records and full name searches

Older court records may require a staff-assisted request. The Clerk states that more than 50 million paper records dating back to 1887 are not yet available online, though most older records can be scanned and made available upon request.

For all-records name searches, use the Court Record Search Request Form and submit it by email, mail, or in person with payment. The search fee is charged per calendar year, per name searched, and payment must be received before the search is completed.

For older court records, in-person requests can be made at the Lake County Courthouse, Central Intake Section, 550 W. Main St., East Wing, First Floor, Tavares.

Older case docket coverage

The online database includes basic case information, but no documents, for these pre-2003 case docket ranges.

Court record fees and payments

Payments for court record requests and searches may be made by personal check, cashier’s check, or money order. Credit card payments are not accepted at this time. Payments should be made payable to Gary J. Cooney, Clerk of Court & Comptroller.

The Clerk does not accept cashier’s checks dated more than two months from the issue date.

Browser and access notes

ShowCase works with current browsers and most mobile devices. Adobe Reader is required to view online documents, and pop-ups must be enabled to view documents.

If the search link does not work, case search fields do not show, or sign-in is difficult, clearing the browser cache may help. Windows users can press Control + F5, and Apple/Mac users can press Shift + Command + R.

System maintenance may be performed daily from 9 p.m. to midnight, and access to parts of the Clerk’s website may be interrupted during that window.
