This page helps users complete a nursing license lookup in Ohio and understand which official verification path fits their need. It covers Ohio eLicense, Nursys QuickConfirm, endorsement verification, third-party verification, and support contacts.
The Ohio Board of Nursing routes license and certificate checks through statewide tools, including eLicense for Ohio licenses and Nursys for nurse licensure and disciplinary information from participating boards of nursing.
Ohio eLicense License Look-Up
Use the Ohio eLicense License Look-Up to search professional, business, occupational license, and certification information issued by Ohio agencies, boards, and commissions.
The eLicense system includes the Ohio Nursing Board among the participating state entities. The information comes directly from the state database and is updated daily.
For a nursing license lookup, check the Ohio license or certificate record in eLicense first when the person is licensed through Ohio. Review the result for the license or certificate status and identifying details shown by the system.
Nursys QuickConfirm license verification
Nursys QuickConfirm provides access to nurse licensure and disciplinary information from participating boards of nursing. Use Nursys QuickConfirm License Verification when you need a nursing-focused verification database tied to NCSBN member boards.
Ohio participates in Nursys for RN/PN licenses and advanced practice licenses. Nursys also lists whether a jurisdiction participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact.
Nursys posts information as submitted by individual boards of nursing. If a record is newly licensed, missing, or not yet listed, the board may add the information during regular updates.
Verification for endorsement or another entity
If a nurse needs verification for endorsement or reciprocity, the Ohio Board of Nursing directs the nurse to Nursys. The nurse must request verification through Nursys, complete the verification process, pay the $30 Nursys fee online, and request that the verification be sent to the state where the nurse is seeking licensure by reciprocity.
If verification is needed from the Ohio Board of Nursing for a third party that is not a board of nursing, the Board lists a non-refundable $15 fee. The nurse should log in at eLicense, go to the RN/LPN license, choose "OPTIONS," select "Send Verification," and complete the service request.
Temporary license note: The Ohio Board of Nursing does not provide verification of a temporary license because it is not considered a full license, but employers and other third parties can view a temporary license through eLicense.
Missing or incomplete Nursys records
Nursys may not show every license. Only licenses from QuickConfirm participating boards of nursing are included, and licenses that expired before 1985 may not be in Nursys.
For missing records, Nursys provides a Missing Record Inquiry process. The inquiry asks for details such as name, birth year, license state, license type, license number, email address, and phone. Nursys forwards the inquiry to the appropriate board of nursing.
If the issue concerns the content, accuracy, or completeness of an individual Nursys record, a challenge may be sent to NursysSupport@ncsbn.org. Nursys forwards the challenge to the nursing regulatory body for resolution.
Employer and access rules for Nursys
Nursys requires users to accept terms and conditions before using QuickConfirm. Employers must also certify compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act when accessing nurse licensure and disciplinary records for employment-related purposes.
Employers, emergency response organizations, credentialing services, and education providers may use Nursys records only for the purposes described in the QuickConfirm terms. Nursys also prohibits downloading, copying, resale, commercial reuse, and automated data gathering from the database.
