This guide helps you search Court Records in Ector County, Texas and shows where to use the Ector County Public Portal, the District Clerk, and the County Clerk for case information and next steps.

This site is independent and does not provide legal, tax, or financial advice or guarantee results. Use official county resources for record access, hearing information, and case details.

Use the Ector County Portal

The main public tool is the Ector County court records portal. Free access includes real-time case index searching, Smart Search, judges' electronic docket entries in paperless courts, and access to upcoming hearings.

Have one of these details ready before you search.

  • A cause number
  • A party name; use commas only when searching for an individual

Once you have a name or case number, use Smart Search to move from results to case details.

  • Open the portal home page and choose Smart Search.
  • Enter a cause number or party name. You can use an asterisk as a wildcard after at least three leading letters or numbers.
  • Review the results and click the case number you need.
  • Use the case details page to move between sections or return to your prior results with the breadcrumbs.

If you want the most recent case activity, open the Financial section and scroll up.

Portal access tip: the site requires JavaScript and cookies, and it works best in a current browser.

Search hearings and dockets

The same portal also lets you search past and future hearings by date range. From the home page, choose Search Hearings, then select a Search Type and enter each required option before you submit the search.

You can switch hearing results between list and calendar views. Clicking a case number from hearing results opens the same case details view used in Smart Search.

Get document images

Free portal access does not include document images. For digital court record images, attorneys, bondsmen, investigators, and other approved users can request registered or enhanced access through the portal.

The portal information page lists these subscription amounts.

Access type Fee Notes
Individual attorney $100.00 Annual subscription
Law firm or approved agency/organization $250.00 Annual subscription
Individual attorney $50.00 Pro-rated rate beginning in July
Law firm or approved agency/organization $125.00 Pro-rated rate beginning in July

To request enhanced access, register as a user, sign in, then open the account menu and choose Request Access. After approval, a View Document button appears in case details, and document downloads are included in the subscription.

For screen-by-screen help, review the Public Portal instructions.

The District Clerk also announced a separate online digital search platform for historic court record index books. The planned search coverage includes Civil File Docket, Fee and Minute Index Books, plus Criminal File Docket, Fee and Minute Index Books.

Common questions

Start with the Ector County Portal and use Smart Search. Enter a cause number or a party name, then open the case number from the results list. If you are searching for a person, use commas only for an individual name.

Can I view document images without a subscription?

No. Free portal access covers the case index, Smart Search, judges' electronic docket entries in paperless courts, and upcoming hearings, but document images require approved enhanced access. If you need images, register, sign in, and submit a Request Access through the portal.

How do I search hearings in the portal?

Use Search Hearings from the portal home page. Choose a Search Type, set a date range, and enter each required search field before submitting. After results load, you can switch between list and calendar views or open a case number for more detail.

What should I do if I need older court index books?

Check with the District Clerk. The office announced a separate digital platform for historic court record index books covering civil and criminal index series. For now, use the District Clerk page or call the office for the next step.

Which clerk should I contact about portal records?

The portal information page ties court records access to both the District Clerk and County Clerk. Start with the District Clerk for portal questions and district court record help, and use the County Clerk for records handled through that office. If you are not sure, call the clerk that matches the case type shown in your search results.
