This page helps users handle an unclaimed property need in Maryland by showing how to search for possible property, file a claim, upload documents, and check claim status.

The Comptroller of Maryland's Unclaimed Property Website and Unclaimed Property Division provide the official statewide path for searching and claiming property at no cost.

Maryland Claim Search Page

Use the search for unclaimed property tool to look for property held in Maryland. Start with the owner’s last name or business name, then narrow the results when needed.

  • Last or business name
  • First name, if available
  • City
  • ZIP code
  • Property ID, if listed on Maryland Unclaimed Property Division correspondence

After results appear, review any possible matches before moving into the claim process.

  • Enter the last or business name on the Claim Search Page.
  • Add a city, ZIP code, or Property ID if the results are too broad.
  • Select each property you want to claim.
  • Choose “Continue To File Claim” and complete the claimant information.
  • Select your relationship to each property being claimed.

Property ID tip: If Maryland sent you correspondence with a Property ID, use that number in the search box to narrow the match.

Claim filing and supporting documents

After selecting property, the online claim process asks for claimant information and the relationship to each property. Maryland may ask for supporting documents to validate the right to claim property based on the relationship chosen.

For an existing claim, use the upload claim documents page. You will need the Claim ID from the upper right-hand corner of the claim form.

  • Use legible, high-resolution images.
  • Upload a standard PDF, TIF, PNG, or JPG file.
  • Keep each file at 10MB or less.
  • Use file names of 100 characters or fewer.
  • Do not upload password-protected documents.
  • Crop images so the document fills the image area.

Claim status and decision timing

Use the check claim status page to search by Claim ID. The Claim ID appears on the claim form or in the email notice received when the claim was started.

The Comptroller’s site says to use the claim status search feature if a decision has not been received within 60-90 business days.

If the Claim ID has been lost or forgotten, contact the Unclaimed Property Division for claim-related help.
