This page helps users handle an inmate search in Hamilton County, Ohio and understand the official jail lookup, basic result fields, and next steps for jail questions.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office and Hamilton County Jail provide the main public path for checking current inmate information, visitation details, deposits, mail rules, and jail contacts.
Current Inmates lookup
Use the official Current Inmates search to review people listed in custody. The lookup is designed for current jail information and includes search fields that can narrow the results.
- Name
- Subject number
- Booking number
- In-custody status
- Booking from date and booking to date
- Housing facility
Start with the most specific information you have. A subject number or booking number can narrow the search faster than a common name.
- Open the Current Inmates search.
- Enter the available name, subject number, booking number, date range, custody status, or housing facility.
- Review matching results for the person’s name, subject number, scheduled release date, gender, and other displayed details.
- Contact the jail if the result is unclear or if you need help with a jail-related question.
Important: Jail information can change, and the Sheriff’s Office states that public-record information is not warranted for content or accuracy.
Lookup Current Inmates page
The Lookup Current Inmates page is the county service page for the inmate lookup. It also warns users that the report may not reflect the most current information.
The page includes a scam warning: the office does not accept crypto for bond. Use official jail instructions and contact the jail before relying on any outside payment request.
Jail information, deposits, and phone calls
The county’s Inmate Information page explains commissary deposits, medical information, phone calls, mail scanning, and other jail rules.
Commissary deposits can be made online or at a kiosk in the jail lobby. A prisoner identification number is needed for deposits. Money is not accepted at the lobby window, and cash or money orders are not accepted through the mail.
For phone calls, inmate communication is handled through scheduled visits, collect calls started by the inmate, or U.S. mail. Jail staff generally cannot pass messages except for emergencies directed to the Chaplain.
Visitation and video visits
The county provides remote video jail visitation through the ViaPath system. General population video visits may be available from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., depending on inmate restrictions.
Visits are by appointment only, last 30 minutes, and may be scheduled up to one week in advance. Visits should be scheduled 24 hours ahead, and scheduling is handled through the website or kiosk rather than by phone.
Jail visiting hours listed for the County Jail are Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 10 a.m., 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., and 7:30 to 10 p.m.
Mail rules for inmates
Personal mail such as letters, pictures, and drawings is delivered digitally through ViaPath Mail Scanning. Adult inmate mail should include the full facility name and state, the inmate’s full name and identifier, and the sender’s full name and physical address.
The mailing address for personal mail is P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131. This is a mail-processing address, not a walk-in jail location.
No cash, checks, money orders, stickers, glitter, pornographic photos, or Polaroid photographs are accepted by mail. Newspapers and magazines must come directly from the publishers.
