Search Alameda County Court Cases

This page helps users with a case search in Alameda County, California, by explaining which official court portals and records offices handle different case types.

The Superior Court of California, County of Alameda provides online access through the Alameda eCourt Public Portal for many civil, family, probate, mental health, and adoption case records. Criminal, juvenile, and traffic matters use different court resources.

Alameda eCourt Public Portal case search

Use the search the Alameda eCourt Public Portal page for Civil, Civil Appeals, Family, Probate, Mental Health, and Adoption case information that is available online.

The portal supports several search and service options:

• Name Search for matching case numbers and filing dates when party information is available.
• Calendar Search by date and court location.
• Case Number Search for case parties, register of actions, minutes, hearing dates, and available document images.
• Case Payment Search for outstanding fees when the case number is known.
• Public Reports (Filings) Search for non-confidential cases filed on a selected day by location and case type.
• Document Downloads for non-confidential, non-sealed documents when permitted.

Important: the eCourt Public Portal does not include Criminal, Juvenile, or Traffic case information.

Information to have before searching

Different search tools require different details. A case number is the most direct way to search and is required for document downloads.

• Case number, if known.
• Party name for a Name Search.
• Date and court location for a Calendar Search.
• Location and case type for Public Reports filed on a selected day.

For criminal record requests, the court requires the defendant’s first and last name plus one additional case identifier.

• Docket or case number.
• Defendant’s date of birth and date of arrest.
• Defendant’s date of birth and date of conviction.

Portal access and account setup

Public access to the eCourt Public Portal requires registration for a user account. Registration is also needed to use portal functions and manage paid document access.

• Create a public user account in the eCourt Public Portal.
• Enter the required account information, including email, first and last name, and phone.
• Use the email link from the portal to create a password.
• Sign in and use the Searches area for name, calendar, case number, filing, and document options.

The portal requires cookies. Pop-up blockers must be disabled to use the site.

Case number search and document downloads

Case Number Search is free for all case types available in the eCourt Public Portal. After selecting a case, users can review case details such as the register of actions, participants, future hearings, minutes, and available documents.

Non-confidential and non-sealed documents may be downloaded when allowed under the California Rules of Court. A half-page preview is available at no cost.

Criminal, juvenile, and traffic case records

Criminal case information is handled outside the eCourt Public Portal. The public may view criminal case information through the Odyssey Portal, but public online access does not include documents.

Copies of non-confidential criminal case documents may be ordered through the submit a criminal record request service. The request system can provide email confirmation, billing if the record is available, or notice if the court cannot locate the record.

Traffic matters use the court’s ticket lookup and payment service. Juvenile court record access requires a petition under California Welfare & Institutions Code Section 827 using Judicial Council form JV-570.

Certified copies and records requests

Certified copies for civil records may be requested by submitting the Civil Records Request form to the Records Management Unit by Drop Box, U.S. Mail, or in person at the proper courthouse where the case is being heard.

Mail requests must include payment and a prepaid self-addressed return envelope of sufficient size and postage. The court accepts check or money order for mail-in requests. In-person payment may be made by cash, credit card, check, or money order.

In-person court record research

Individuals may research court records in person at no cost. Public access terminals and indexes are available for public use, and files may be viewed only on the premises.

Civil case records can be viewed at public terminals at the René C. Davidson Courthouse Civil Division. Civil records may also be accessed through the Hayward Hall of Justice and George E. McDonald Hall of Justice.

For many criminal cases opened since 1974, information is available in person. Odyssey Kiosk access is available on public terminals at select court locations, including access to public documents for qualifying cases.
