This page explains how to handle a Business Entity Search in Florida and where to look for official business records. It helps you use the Florida Department of State Division of Corporations search tools to find entity details, status information, and filed documents.

Florida’s statewide business records are available through Sunbiz, the Division of Corporations search system. You can search by business name and, when needed, use other search options such as officer or registered agent name, FEI number, document number, street address, or ZIP code.

The main statewide search tool is the Sunbiz name search. Use it to look up corporations, limited liability companies, limited partnerships, and trademarks in Florida.

  • Entity name
  • Optional partial name keywords

You do not need the full name to begin. The records are indexed alphabetically, and broader keyword searches can help when the exact name is unclear.

  • Open the Florida business name search.
  • Enter the business name or partial name and review the results list.
  • Select the matching record to open the entity detail page.
  • Check the document number, status, filing dates, registered agent, and officer or manager details shown on the record.

Tip: Suffixes such as Inc., Corp., or LLC are not always the best starting point for a name search. Shorter keywords often work better.

Other ways to search Florida business records

If a name search does not give you the right result, the Division of Corporations provides several other search paths for the same record set. You can search by officer or registered agent name, registered agent name, trademark name, trademark owner name, FEI number, document number, ZIP code, or street address.

Searching by document number is useful when you already have the Department of State identification number for a record. If you get a “Record Not Found” message, try the search again or switch back to a name search. Use the number zero in document numbers, not the letter “o.”

What you can view on a record

After you open a Florida business record, the detail page can show the document number, FEI number, filing date, state, status, effective date, last event, event dates, registered agent, officer or director detail, titles, and recent annual reports.

From the entity detail page, you can also open available filed documents. The documents open as PDFs that you can view, save, or print.

Images of most documents filed since 1996 can be downloaded free of charge. The Division of Corporations notes that database records are updated daily, while images of electronic filings usually appear within 3 business days after processing and images of non-electronic filings usually appear within 5 business days of examination.

If you need more than a basic record lookup, the Division of Corporations also handles certified copies and certificates of status. Certificates of status can be requested online using a credit card or a Prepaid Sunbiz E-File Account.

Requests for copies of documents that are not available online must be submitted in writing and mailed to the Certification Section. General navigation help is also available through the Division of Corporations search records page and the Help & Quick Links page.
