Find a Miami-Dade County Inmate

This guide helps with inmate search in Miami-Dade County, Florida and points you to the main county lookup tools, related jail services, and the contact lines most useful for follow-up.

For current custody information, Miami-Dade Corrections & Rehabilitation uses the Inmate In-Custody Search. Separate county pages also cover records requests, release questions, visitation, mail, trust deposits, and commissary orders.

Inmate In-Custody Search

Use the county’s inmate search tools to look for a person currently in custody and to pull the details commonly needed for release, visitation, mail, or account deposits.

Start with the MDCR Inmate Search. Miami-Dade County also provides an Inmate In-Custody Search page that explains the online lookup and the information shown in search results.

• Open the county search page.
• Enter the inmate’s last name with the first initial or first name.
• Review the custody result for name, date of birth, race, sex, location, charges, bond amount, jail number, booking date, booking time, and mugshot.

Tip: Keep the jail number from the search result. You may need it for mail, trust account deposits, and other follow-up questions.

After you find an inmate

The search result can help you confirm the facility, charges, bond amount, and jail number before you call. Those details are the fastest way to move to the next step.

• For bondable charges, bond can be posted at any time.
• For bond amount or general inmate information, call inmate information at (786) 263-7000.
• Release processing takes place at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.

If you need property after release, the Property Room at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Property is usually available for pickup for up to 30 days. After that, it is stored offsite and pickup arrangements can be made by calling (786) 263-5355.

Records and case information

Use Corrections & Rehabilitation Records for corrections records requests. For felony and misdemeanor case searches, calendars, and certified copies through docket entries, use Criminal Justice Online Case Search.

For a corrections records request, include the subject of the request, such as the inmate name, officer name, or record type, along with detailed information about what happened, who was involved, and where it took place. Arrest records should be requested from the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Central Records sends an invoice or estimate before copying when payment is required. Payment options listed are cash, cashier’s check, and money order payable to Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department, Central Records Unit.

Visitation and communication

Miami-Dade County provides visitation, mail, phone, and messaging details on its Inmate Contact & Visitation page.

Remote video visitation

Attorneys and professional visitors must complete the remote video visitation application and register on the Global Tel*Link (GTL) website. Friends and family must be on the inmate’s approved master visitation list before registering with GTL. The county asks friends and family to allow up to 24 hours for processing. Mail, phone, and eMessaging

Mail rule: Personal inmate mail must be sent through the United States Postal Service. Other couriers are not accepted.

Personal correspondence is limited to plain white, originally lined paper. The county also lists several items that are not allowed, including greeting cards, postcards, colored paper or envelopes, padded mailers, and hardcover books. Mail should include the inmate’s full name, booking number, and agency name, and it should be sent to PO BOX 20527, Tampa, FL 33622. Your full return address must be on the envelope and letter.

Inmates cannot receive incoming phone calls. Friends and family can set up prepaid collect calling through Securus and AdvancePay. The county also states that eMessaging content is monitored and reviewed, and that a Securus Online account is required to send messages, photos, or VideoGrams.

Trust deposits and commissary

Use Inmate Trust Account Deposits to add funds and Inmate Commissary Items to send pre-packaged gifts through iCare.
