This guide helps you find Court Records in Collin County, Texas using the county’s official online search tools and the clerk offices that handle district, county, probate, criminal, civil, family, and justice court matters.
For most searches, users start with Judicial Online Search or the county’s Case Record Inquiry system. Older files and some record requests still need to go through the appropriate clerk’s office.
This site is independent and offers general help only. It does not provide legal advice or guarantee record availability, so use official county resources for current case information.
Use Judicial Online Search
For a broad online search across Collin County court records, start with search court cases online. The county describes this as a one-stop search tool for past and present cases, from traffic and criminal matters to divorces and civil cases.
Have the basic case details ready before you search.
- Party name
- Case number
- Citation number, if you have one
If you need a more case-type-specific search, the county also offers Case Record Inquiry, where you choose the case type first and then open the matching records section.
- Open the county search tool that fits your need.
- Search by name, case number, or citation number.
- Review the case summary, parties, status, file date, judicial officer, and case events shown in the results.
- If you need a different court type, switch to the matching case category in Case Record Inquiry.
The county says Judicial Online Search is mobile-friendly and available 24/7.
Choose the right court records path
Collin County uses more than one records path, and the right one depends on the court and case type.
- District Courts: felony criminal, civil, and family matters are handled through the District Clerk.
- County Courts at Law: Class A and B misdemeanors, certain civil suits, nondisclosures, occupational driver’s license matters, NISI cases, and some appeals are handled by the County Court at Law Clerks.
- Probate matters: probate records are included in the county’s online case tools, and probate clerk contacts are listed separately.
- Justice Courts: Justice of the Peace records, small claims, some traffic matters, and related calendars use the justice court record inquiry and court calendar tools.
If you already know the court that handled the case, going straight to the matching office can save time when online results are limited or you need a manual search.
Coverage and update times
The county gives different coverage ranges and refresh times depending on which search feature you use.
| Tool or record area | Coverage | Update timing |
|---|---|---|
| Case Search | Active cases in District, County Court at Law, Probate, and Justice Courts, plus historical records for several court types | Updated daily at 6 p.m. |
| Case Record Inquiry | Active cases and some historical cases, but only one case type can be searched at a time | Updated in real time |
| County Court at Law historical online coverage | Criminal cases from 2000 to present and civil cases from 1984 to present | Use manual search for older files |
| District Court historical online coverage | Criminal cases from 1988 to present and civil cases from 1984 to present | Use manual search for older files |
Justice Court history in the online tools is narrower than some other courts. The county says older Justice Court files may require a manual request if they are not in the online applications.
Older records and manual searches
When a case is too old for the online tools, Collin County directs users to a manual record search through the clerk’s office that holds that court file.
For County Court at Law matters, older criminal cases from the 1800s through 1999 and older civil cases from the 1800s through 1983 must be requested in person or by mail. The County Court at Law Clerks office charges $5.00 for each search, requires the individual’s complete name and date of birth, and asks mailed requests to include a self-addressed stamped envelope plus a check or money order.
For District Court matters, older criminal cases from the 1800s through 1987 and older civil cases from the 1800s through 1983 must be requested in person or by mail or email through the District Clerk. The District Clerk also charges $5 each and says mailed requests should include the complete name, date of birth, self-addressed stamped envelope, and payment.
Record searches are not provided by phone by either the County Court at Law Clerks office or the District Clerk for these manual historical searches.
Court calendars and related tools
If you need hearing dates instead of just case details, Collin County also provides a Court Calendar search. The county instructs users to choose the correct case type before opening the calendar tool.
For probate calendar searches, the county says to search by Judicial Officer and select Copeland, Weldon S. Justice Courts also provide a case record inquiry and court calendar search option for precinct-level cases.
These calendar tools are useful when you already know the case type but need a scheduled setting, court date, or hearing view.
