This guide helps you check Property Tax information in Comal County, Texas and understand where to search, pay, and get help from the Comal County Tax Assessor-Collector.
Use the county’s official search portal to look up a tax account, then use the Tax Office for payments, account questions, installment options, and statement issues. This site is independent and does not provide legal, tax, or financial advice or guarantees; use official resources for decisions about your account.
Comal County online taxes search
The main starting point is the county’s online tax search. It lets you search active or inactive accounts and view paid or unpaid status.
You can search with one of these details:
- Account number, with dashes included
- Owner name, entered as last name followed by first name or first initial
- Owner mailing address
- Property location, using the street number and street name only
When you search by property location, do not include the street type or direction. For example, use the number and street name without labels such as Ave., Ln., or Dr.
- Open the official property tax search.
- Choose the search type that matches the information you have.
- Set the pay status filter if you want to narrow results to paid, unpaid, or both.
- Run the search and review the account shown for the property or owner.
If you have a tax statement, the account number printed there can be the fastest way to find the correct record.
Payment dates and delinquent taxes
Tax statements are mailed in October each year. Taxes are due when the statement is received, and payment should be made by January 31 to avoid penalty and interest.
Current taxes become delinquent on February 1 of the following year. Delinquent taxes may also incur an additional penalty of up to 20% beginning July 1 of the year they become delinquent.
If you mail a check, the envelope must be postmarked on or before January 31. A February 1 postmark triggers penalty and interest for that payment.
Not receiving a bill does not stop the tax, due date, lien, penalty, or interest from applying. If you have not received your statement by mid-November, contact the Tax Office and ask for another statement.
Installment, monthly, and escrow options
Some taxpayers may qualify to pay in four installments under Section 31.031 of the Texas Property Tax Code. This option applies to an individual who is disabled or at least 65 years of age and qualifies for a homestead exemption, or to an individual qualified under Section 11.22.
| Installment | Due date |
|---|---|
| First installment | January 31 |
| Second installment | March 31 |
| Third installment | May 31 |
| Fourth and final installment | July 31 |
The Tax Office can also discuss partial payments and delinquent tax installment agreements. Monthly installment agreements are available for delinquent taxes after they become delinquent on February 1.
For current taxes, you may pay monthly between October 1 and January 31 without a formal agreement. The office also accepts escrow agreements for pre-paying upcoming taxes based on estimated amounts.
Statements, values, and tax rates
If you need a balance or receipt, use the county tax portal to view your property taxes and tax history. If your mortgage company requested the statement, you may need to contact the Tax Office to have another statement mailed to you directly.
Ownership, mailing address changes, and appraised value questions are handled through the Appraisal District rather than the Tax Office. Revised tax statements are sent after the Tax Office receives an adjustment from the Appraisal District.
For tax rate details by taxing unit, you can review the county’s Truth in Taxation property search and the county’s tax rates page.
Where to pay property tax
You can pay property taxes in person, online, by phone, or by mail. All offices accept cash, check, cashier’s check, money order, credit cards, and eChecks, and online payments are accepted through the county tax system.
Phone payments are available through Certified Payments at (866) 549-1010 using bureau code 4815691. Credit and debit card payments carry a 2.15% vendor fee with a $1 minimum, while eChecks have no fee.
Property tax payments may be made at the New Braunfels office, the Sattler office, or the Bulverde office. If you mail a payment, include a copy of your statement and write the Property ID Number or numbers on the check.

Common questions
How do I look up my Comal County property tax account?
Use the county’s official property tax search. You can search by account number, owner name, owner mailing address, or property location. For a property location search, enter only the street number and street name.
When are Comal County property taxes due?
Statements are mailed in October, and taxes are due upon receipt. Pay by January 31 to avoid penalty and interest. Taxes become delinquent on February 1 of the following year.
What should I do if I never received my tax statement?
You are still responsible for paying on time even if the bill did not arrive. If you have not received your statement by mid-November, contact the Tax Office and ask for another statement. You can also check your account through the online tax portal.
Who handles value, ownership, or exemption questions?
The Appraisal District handles appraised values, ownership records, address changes, and exemption information. The Tax Office collects and records the taxes but does not set taxable value. If your value changes, wait for the revised statement after the adjustment reaches the Tax Office.
Can I pay on installments or monthly?
Some taxpayers may qualify for four installment payments if they meet the homestead exemption rules described by the county. Delinquent taxes may also be placed on a monthly installment agreement after February 1. For current taxes before delinquency, you may make monthly payments between October 1 and January 31, and the office also offers escrow agreements for pre-payment.
